Diablo rojo

The Humboldt squid (Dosidicus gigas), also known as jumbo squid or diablo rojo (Spanish for Red Devil), is a large powerful predatory squid. Their tentacles bear suckers lined with sharp teeth with which they grasp prey and drag it towards in a large sharp beak. They are not picky and eat what they can catch even its fellow species (cannibalism). Humboldt squids lives normally in a depth of 700 to 2.500 feets but occasionally they come in the night for hunting in shallow waters. This is the moment for the mexican fisherman which fishing them with traditional fishing lines. There are numerous accounts of the squid attacking fishermen, that’s why the nickname diablo rojos (red devils). Click one of the photos to see more….

Mattanza - Thuna massacre

Every year in march schoolings of thunas passing Gibraltar and enter the Mediterranean Sea to spawn. Fishermen waiting for them with a system of nets which ends in the “cammera della morte” (chamber of death). This is the moment which the tonnarotti (thuna fishermen) waiting for. With sharp hooks they lift the thunas into their boats. A traditional fishing technique which reduce the population of thunas from year to year dramatically. Click one of the photos to see more……

Deep Sea Adventures

One of the biggest adventure on our planet is a deep sea experience in Costa Rica. The custom-built submarin “DeepSee” explores the Abyss around the Cocos islands until a depth of 1,500 feet. Up to two passengers can marvel many unusual deep-sea creatures such as the Prickly shark ( Echinorhinus cookei ). If the “DeepSee” is not booked it is used for scientific research. Dive between the continents!

Scuba divers in the Silfra crack, Thingvellir Lake, National Park Thingvellir, Iceland.  It’s the place where the american and eurasian continental plates meets and drift apart about 3cm per year. The incredible visibility reached up to 100 meter, but the water is with 4 Grad Celsius extremly cold. Iceland is a natural beauty with many attractions. Steaming geysers, waterfalls, beautiful landscapes and whale whatching. Look for more photos here

The Crocodile man

Incredible but true! In Costa Rica lives a indian man which has an unusual friend: a American crocodile,  Crocodylus acutus. Every morning they swim together in a lake and snuggle together. You can find more photos about this friendship if you klick the photo left.
